About Mitchell M. Porias, D.O.

Dr. Mitchell M. Porias received his undergraduate education at the University of Miami in Miami, Florida, and his medical degree from the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri.

Dr. Porias opened his private practice in 1975 here in Houston and, later joined the Houston Eye Associates in 2007. Although Dr. Porias has had extensive experience in pediatric, corneal, and glaucoma procedures, he now primarily dedicates his practice to the treatment of cataracts. To date, Dr. Porias has performed over 20,000 cataract surgeries. These surgeries include the use of state-of-the-art laser-assisted technology and specialty intraocular lenses.

Dr. Porias is a member of numerous professional societies including Life Fellow in the American Academy of Ophthalmology, past President of the Houston Ophthalmological Society, Texas Ophthalmological Association, Texas Medical Association, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and the American Osteopathic Association.

Dr. Porias has contributed his time and expertise to providing medical and surgical care to underserved areas in the Third World for over a decade. His mission work has taken him to Mexico, Belize, Bolivia, Fiji, and El Salvador.

When not caring for his patients, Dr. Porias enjoys spending time outdoors. In earlier years, he was actively engaged in competitive equestrian sports including 3-day Eventing (and was recognized nationally), dressage, and show jumping. He also served on the National Board of Governors for the United States Eventing Association. Today, he still cares for his horses on his farm in Waller County. Lately, Dr. Porias has renewed his interest in guitar and voice.

Dr. Porias has been married to his wife Rachel for almost fifty years. Together, they have a daughter named Laura (married to Albert) and a grandson named Blake (also a guitarist).
