About Joshua A. Atkinson, M.D.

Dr. Joshua A. Atkinson graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in Austin, Texas with a Bachelor of Science in Neurobiology. He then pursued his Doctor of Medicine with a concentration in Neuroscience at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Medical School in Houston, Texas. During his time in medical school, he was involved in several ophthalmology and vision research projects, which have been presented on the national stage. Dr. Atkinson then completed his ophthalmology residency at West Virginia University Eye Institute in Morgantown, West Virginia where he was selected by the faculty and staff to serve as Chief Resident his senior year in addition to being awarded Resident of the Year. Dr. Atkinson then returned home to Houston, Texas, and joined the Houston Eye Associates team.

Dr. Atkinson is a general/comprehensive ophthalmologist specializing in the medical and surgical treatment of cataracts, glaucoma, dry eyes, diabetes, and glasses, as well as many other ocular complaints. Dr. Atkinson is a member of the American Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association, the Harris County Medical Society, the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

In his free time, Dr. Atkinson enjoys traveling with his wife, Michelle, and his children. His hobbies include cooking, snow-skiing, and playing the guitar, piano, and trumpet.
